How to paint like William-Adolphe Bouguereau. Lesson 3.
In this 2 hours long video tutorial Sergey Gusev demostrates how to make a master copy after a famous french painter of the 19th century William-Adolphe Bouguereau in oils on canvas.This lesson is a step by step tutorial devided into 4 parts:
underdrawing,
underpainting,
blocking in,
details.
Part 1. Underdrawing.
In the first part the artist shows how to make an underdrawing using willow charcoal. Mostly Sergey cares for the right composition and proportions of the head. After the underdrawing is done it is not necesssary to fixate it so you can start working on the underpainting staright away.
Part 2. Underpainting.
In this part Sergey explains how to make an underpainting - the first layer of oil color using Gamsol as a medium and two oil paints: Burnt umber (Michael Harding) and Transparent Red-Oxide Lake (Old Holland).
Part 3.Blocking in.
This is the main part where the artists explains how to block in using all the colors from the palette.This part is done alla prima during one session.After finishing it up we let it dry for a few days - most likely a week.
Part 4. Details.
In the final part Sergey explains how to finish the painting working on the facial details, likeness, softening the transitions between the half-tones.
